Batman Versus Superman Dawn Of Justice

Here at Mens Stuff we love a good action movie and have been counting down the days until Dawn Of Justice hit the cinemas. We were lucky enough here at Mens Stuff to be the first in the country to see it!

Five minutes into the film we realised that we were not watching a recap from the previous film Man Of Steele but in fact it was Man Of Steel! It transpired that we had booked ourselves into the 6 hour marathon and double bill with the two movies playing back to back – happy days!

The first thing that struck us about Dawn Of Justice was the cinematography. Director Zack Snyder has really gone all out on this latest movie which is a visual feast for the senses! The scenes are more powerful, more dynamic and there is a foreboding sense of doom and destruction throughout.

The cast which seemed very promising does not disappoint and Superman played by Henry Cavill really comes into his own as the hero finds his sense of identity and justice and all whilst wearing the coolest, most bad ass suit and performing spine tingling displays of heroism.

Initially Batman seemed a bit less cool than the former Batman films but we are sure that this was intentional. The new outfit didn’t evoke any feelings of awe and even the Batmobile seemed a little dumbed down and seemed to have been replaced by a more simpler dune bug that failed to leave us drooling with envy. Later however when the caped vigilante and Superman join forces, Batman goes all out with new and impressive technology, weaponry and moves which had us on the edge of our seats and routing for the hero that we know and love!

Lets face it, a match between Superman and Batman is a little crazy as Superman has limitless energy, a body of steel and is an unbeatable force. The only way to bring him down is with kryptonite. Together these two are an indomitable force that lead us into a merry dance of epic battles, high octane action and spectacular city scapes as the two battle their way across the city.

Lex Luthor is superbly played by Jesse Eisenberg, an excellent villain who gives a stellar performance of a psychotic megalomanic hellbent on chaos and destruction….and “The head of the Bat!”

We were also thrilled at the appearance of Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot from The Fast And Furious) in this latest flick. It’s great to see more strong female roles in action flicks (and even better when they are dressed in something skimpy in our opinion!)  Gaot is an amazing actress, and undeniable sexy as hell. She is absolutely perfect for this role and projects great strength and determination in the final battle. This is also a great lead up to future movies from Detective Comics who are undoubtedly planning a similar approach to Marvel where the forces of good unite and form an alliance to banish all evil. Exciting stuff!

There was a few points in the film where our sense of magic realism was challenged and where the plot points were brushed over a little less satisfactory than we’d have hoped. Yet this is more than made up for by Snyder’s attention to each scene that enables every single action scene to become a spectacle that will leave you gripping your seats and breaking out into beads of sweat. It’s so fast paced that you forget that a minor plot point miffed you slightly as you suddenly feel gripped once more in anticipation and jolted by an electric charge of excitement as DC’s finest characters come to life in a legendary showdown with the powers of evil!

Dawn Of Justice is highly emotive and has a sense of darkness throughout and lets say while it seemingly ends on a rather sinister and tragic note, the way it is filmed cleverly leaves the audience subtle clues that tells us that the battle is not over yet!

We are huge fans of both Marvel and DC but given their last two pieces of work (DC’s Superman VS Batman and Marvel’s Deadpool) we’d have to favour DC who have brought together these characters in such an insurmountable way, we can’t see how anyone can top this.

It’s a thumbs up from us. This is the movie of 2016 – go watch it now or you are missing out big time!
