Buckingham Palace is one of the homes of the British Monarchy and was first built in 1705. It has certainly stood the test of time and has seen many great events, ceremonies and festivals throughout history. In 2012 Buckingham Palace appeared in a promotional video for The Olympics.
We saw our dearly beloved queen patting her little corgi’s goodbye before skipping into a helicopter with James Bond (played by Daniel Craig) and then parachuting into the Olympics. What an entrance (stunt Queen or not!) In one cool swoop, our Queen went from a little old lady with a crown on her head to one of the coolest Monarch’s Britain has ever seen!
June 2012 also saw Buckingham Palace light up the sky for the Queens Jubilee. A huge music festival was organised on the grounds which saw 80’s band Madness play some of their greatest hits. As an honour to Queen Liz the band changed the lyrics for ‘Our House’ ‘In the middle of the street’ to ‘In the middle of One’s street!’ An impressive light display wowed onlookers and icon symbols of London and Monarch throughout history were projected onto the castle walls.
For the big finale Brian May sung ‘God save The Queen’ from the palace roof to a crowd of roaring onlookers and Royals. This is a royal who knows how to throw a party! Can she plan our parties please!
The grounds and gardens are really quite astounding and it’s an inspiring place to visit whether you are a history fan or not. You might even catch site of one of the corgi’s! You never know!
