Peter Hines, marketing executive for Bethesda, has confirmed Fallout 4 is now the most successful game in the publishers history, surpassing The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim in terms of copies sold. As it turns out, there was a bit of confusion around the statement, with Hines later clarifying Fallout 4 is now the most successful when comparing both games over the same period of time. Still, that’s quite an impressive achievement nonetheless.
There hasn’t been much word on Fallout 4 from Bethesda, prompting questions of the games reception as the reason to a lack of communication on it. The game shipped 12 million units on release day, and 15 months later, we now know it’s their most successful game ever for the period. Some have questioned the games lack of innovation to set itself apart from it’s predecessor Fallout 3, which in some part is a fair point to make, but when the formula isn’t broken, you don’t need to fix it.
Talking of the next game from the developer, Hines commented saying “their mantra is always ‘we really gotta step up our game’.” Whatever direction they decide to go in next, whether it’s Fallout, Elder Scrolls, or a completely new IP, Bethesda have a challenge ahead of them if they want to knock Fallout 4 off that top spot, however I’m excited to see what they bring to the table to achieve that.
Which do you think is their best game, Fallout 4 or Skyrim?
