Ferrari has just announced an exciting update for the upcoming Miami Grand Prix: a special livery featuring captivating shades of blue. This one-of-a-kind design is set to commemorate Ferrari’s 70th anniversary in North America with a fresh twist that’s sure to turn heads on the track.
The chosen hues, Azzurro La Plata and Azzurro Dino, hold significant historical resonance. Back in 1964, during the final two races of the Formula 1 season, Ferrari departed from its iconic Rosso Corsa red and embraced the white and blue livery, a nod to North American Racing Team (N.A.R.T.). This departure marked a memorable shift in Ferrari’s visual identity.
The unveiling of this unique livery is eagerly anticipated, scheduled to take place in Florida leading up to the Miami race. While the exact date remains under wraps, Ferrari has provided insight into the design’s rich historical references and the symbolic importance of the chosen blue shades.
Azzurro La Plata, a lighter blue hue, pays homage to Argentina’s national racing color. This shade was famously worn by the legendary Alberto Ascari during his championship-winning seasons in 1952 and 1953. Ascari, Ferrari’s first world champion, considered this blue attire his lucky charm, adorning himself with a matching jersey and helmet.
During the 1960s, the same blue hue graced the racing suits of Ferrari drivers such as John Surtees, Lorenzo Bandini, Ludovico Scarfiotti, and Chris Amon. Even Niki Lauda sported this iconic shade during his debut year with Ferrari, along with the dedicated Maranello workforce.
Azzurro Dino, the deeper blue counterpart, also boasts a storied past. Notably worn by drivers like Clay Regazzoni in 1974, this hue represents a transitional phase in Ferrari’s visual identity. Following this era, Ferrari’s drivers predominantly donned the renowned red suits, occasionally alternating with white.
With this special livery, Ferrari not only celebrates its heritage but also adds a fresh chapter to its racing legacy. As anticipation builds for the Miami Grand Prix, all eyes will be on the striking blue hues adorning the SF-24 car, embodying the spirit of innovation and tradition that define Ferrari on the track.
