This one somehow passed us by in late 2016 but if you like zombie films this will have you on the edge of your seats.
Just when we thought the supply of inspired zombie flicks had run dry, Warner Brothers brought us this edgy and thought provoking film based on a best selling novel by M.R. Carey.
In this dystopian setting, the whole of humanity has entered a bleak feature as a deadly fungus arrives which turns most of society in horrifically ravaged flash eating, killing machines. Society has broken down and hope has been all but forgotten, that is until it transpires that a small number of children may be the key to finding a cure for this terrible affliction. The group of youngster are affected differently by the fungus from most, and whilst they still crave live flesh, they are capable of rational thought, logic and still feel emotion. The children are held in a secure prison camp style scientific centre where they are studied and educated.
One young genius called Melanie stands out in particular and forms a very close bond with her teacher. However, the teacher is severely reprimanded by SGT Parks for sharing a close attachment with a ‘hungry’ and it becomes clear he is experimenting on the children and having them autopsied. The scientists are desperately seeking a cure and Parks has no qualms about killing these children to find one.
We have seen a lot of zombie movies here at Mens Stuff and generally they are filled with cliches and scenes we have seen time and time again. This one however is inspired and extremely compelling.
Directed by Colin McCarthy, the film features a line up of stars including Glenn Close, Gemma Arterton, Sennia Nanua and Paddy Considine. You will love the trailer – watch it now!
