The much awaited Ip man three has finally arrived to grace our screens! If the third of the trilogy is anywhere near as good as Ip man 1 and 2 then this is set to be a real blinder! The previous movies followed Ip man’s life and career running various martial arts schools and facing various challenges. His trials and tribulations include being told that he could not teach without paying an extortionate fee to racketeers, struggling to provide from his family, battling many opponents, some of whom tried to steal his school of martial arts and finally fleeing to Hong Kong from Guangdong amidst a war with the Japanese.
Ip man is a master of Wing Chun – a system of martial arts that works by using the opponents strength against him. The real life Ip man trained martial arts legends Bruce Lee . Donnie Yen who plays Ip man in the movies certainly does him justice and is the ultimate warrior! He is faster than most and performs high octane moves, often with that sweet and serene smile on his face. He is a very loveable character and we are excited to see him return for a third movie.
If you are not a fan of subtitled movies, please don’t let this put you off! The Ip man movies are easy to follow and you will be rewarded with plenty of fast paced action, incredible well choreographed fight scenes and stunning performances! Directed by Yuen Woo Ping (Director and also action choreographer and fight advisor on many box office hits including Kill Bill and The Matrix) this is bound to be an action filled visual fest of glorious mayhem.
The latest movie also features boxing legend Mike Tyson. We think that this movie will feature the most epic battle we have seen yet between two very worthy opponents. Whilst we love a bit of Tyson, we are secretly routing for Ip man here at MensStuff as his level of skill just bowls us right over! This movie is released 22nd February – we’ll be there on the opening night jumping up and down like excited children!
