Well this exactly what billions of people have been doing when they downloaded one of the top ten flash light apps for their phones!
When you agree to the terms and conditions you allow your phone to be infected with Malware. This will beam all your photos, personal information, addresses, bank information and other data via satellite to companies that collect this data. It is often used for criminal activity in China, Russia and India.
The software which has been collating all of our personal information is a Chinese program called Youmi. And it’s all listed in the apps terms and conditions where users tend to scroll down without reading and agree!
Cyber Security expert Gary Miliefsky warns that simply uninstalling an app is just not effective. The apps are programmed to release trojans onto your I-phone when you hit uninstall which can be just as harmful.
He recommends backing up your data and doing a complete factory reset on your device. For those who aren’t quite so tech savvy he recommends taking it to your Apple store or supplier where they will be able to reset your device to the factory settings.
Are You Being Spied On.
This week Apple removed over 300 apps from the App Store when it was discovered that users were being spied on and their data was being collected.
Anyone using a mobile should also be wary of leaving their devices unattended. It has recently come to light that many apps offering parents ‘child tracking and protection’ are being mis-used and a stalker or possessive ex or spouse can install software to spy on you within minutes! In an experiment on Youtube a reporters phone was hacked into and the hacker was able to view maps of where she was, view her calls list and even listen in on conversations! This is quite harrowing stuff and serves as a reminder to always keep your phone on you.
