It’s that time of year again, where the dusty trails of Moab, Utah beckon to off-road enthusiasts from across the continent. The Annual Easter Jeep Safari, now in its 58th year, has become a pilgrimage for four-wheeler fans eager to test their skills on rugged terrain and connect with fellow Jeep aficionados. This year’s event, spanning the last week of March, promises excitement and innovation as Jeep unveils four stunning new concepts, each pushing the boundaries of off-road capability and design.
While the Red Rock 4-Wheelers Off-Road Club hosts the event, Jeep’s presence is always eagerly anticipated. The automaker seizes the opportunity to showcase its latest creations and gather feedback from enthusiasts. Past Safaris have seen concepts evolve into production models, like the Wrangler pickup truck, known as the Gladiator. This year, Jeep aims to captivate attendees with four unique concepts: two based on the Wrangler, one on the Gladiator, and another on the iconic Grand Wagoneer. Let’s take a closer look at each.
1. Jeep Low Down Concept
Drawing inspiration from the Wrangler Lower 40 concept revealed 15 Safaris ago, the Low Down pays homage to its predecessor while pushing the boundaries further. Based on the Wrangler Rubicon 392, this concept boasts 42-inch BF Goodrich Krawler mud-terrain tires mounted on 20-inch beadlock wheels. Despite the massive tires, the Low Down maintains a stock ride height, thanks to special carbon fender flares providing ample clearance. Enhanced with heavier-duty Dana 60 axles and 5:83 gears, it ensures unmatched off-road performance. Powered by a 6.4L V8 engine generating 475 horsepower, the Low Down is a beast on the trails. Its distinctive Poison Apple Red paint, clear dome hood, and minimalist interior with black leather seats exude rugged elegance. And who needs infotainment screens when you have selectable exhaust settings labeled Loud.
2. Jeep Willys Dispatcher Concept
For fans of vintage Jeeps, the Willys Dispatcher concept is a nostalgic delight. Based on the Wrangler 4xe, this concept pays tribute to the original Willys Jeeps of the post-World War II era. Adorned with classic Willys branding and equipped with a vintage-style bumper featuring an 8274 Warn winch, it exudes old-school charm. The distressed leather seats and houndstooth fabric accents add a touch of retro luxury, while the 36-inch tires mounted on 16-inch “steelie” wheels ensure modern-day performance with a nod to the past.
3. Jeep Gladiator Rubicon High Top Concept
Transporting us back to the 1970s and 1980s, the Gladiator Rubicon High Top concept exudes vintage flair with a modern twist. Painted in Ginger Snap, reminiscent of the Golden Ginger shade from the late 1970s, this concept features quilted black leather seats with tan accents, evoking classic automotive luxury. Equipped with 18-inch beadlock wheels and 40-inch all-terrain tires, it’s ready to conquer any terrain with style. The innovative power-operated rock rails and adjustable air suspension ensure ease of access and superior off-road performance.
4. Jeep Vacationeer Concept
Embracing the spirit of adventure, the Vacationeer concept transforms the Grand Wagoneer into the ultimate outdoor getaway vehicle. With a carbon-fiber pop-up tent mounted on the roof, complete with climate control and solar power, it invites exploration under the open sky. The interior, reimagined with only two seats and a weatherproof pass-through, offers a cozy retreat from the elements. Drawing inspiration from the Grand Wagoneer’s heritage, the Vacationeer features a subtle woodgrain stripe atop its “Spearminted” paint, paying homage to its iconic design. Custom flares and enlarged wheel openings accommodate 35-inch mud-terrain tires, ensuring off-road prowess with a touch of elegance.
While these concepts may be just a glimpse into Jeep’s creative vision, they represent the brand’s commitment to innovation and adventure. Whether these features make their way into production vehicles or remain as exclusive accessories, one thing is certain – it’s a Jeep thing, and we understand. As we eagerly await the reactions from this year’s Safari attendees, we can only imagine the exciting possibilities that lie ahead for Jeep enthusiasts worldwide.
