Cherchi’s success in Britain was notable, especially under the tutelage of trainer Marco Botti, whom he considered a mentor. Botti fondly remembers Cherchi as a “nice guy” and “like a son,” highlighting his charm and positive demeanor.

Cherchi’s British debut in 2018 marked the beginning of a promising career, with victories aboard horses trained by notable names such as Saeed bin Suroor and Amy Murphy. His amiable nature and skill in the saddle earned him widespread admiration.

David Loughnane, who witnessed Cherchi’s talent firsthand, described him as “an absolute gentleman” and expressed condolences to his loved ones.

The British Horseracing Authority and the Professional Jockeys Association joined in expressing sorrow over the loss of such a promising young talent, emphasizing Cherchi’s popularity and exceptional riding ability.
