Star Trek throughout the years seems to have predict many forms of technology that we once deemed impossible. Do you remember when they contacted alien planets from different star systems and the ships translator would decode the language and deliver it back to them in their own? At the time many people thought this was a concept that could never be achieved, and now it has happened!
Waverley labs have created a simple ear piece that allows two people with different languages to understand each other. When a language is spoken that is foreign to the wearer, the earpiece translates it and feeds back the information in the wearers own language. This is a huge step forward for mankind. Starting with the basics, this would be a fantastic piece of kit for holiday makers who would be able to converse freely with locals, although we do imagine that the technology si not cheap at this time.
On a much grander scale we imagine that might be used for negotiations and between world leaders to make conversations and agreements with much more ease. Perhaps one day everyone will use these and the technology will have progressed so extensively that we can call someone in Argentina or Kenya and have a fluent conversation with them.
Anything that makes communication easier gets a thumbs up from us and would work to improve relations and break through social barriers. Good stuff!
