The Maldives are a wonderful destination to visit in the Spring. There’s a common misconception that there is little to do in the Maldives other than sunbathe and swim but this could not be further from the truth and you can treat yourself to some serious pampering with wellness techniques or even swim with sharks!
In April there are two festivals worth a visit. The first one is ‘Jumeirah Vittaveli’s Talise Wellness Month‘ which offers an itinerary of wellness activities such as spa treatments, yoga, meditation, nutritional cooking classes where you can learn how to prepare tasty and delicious dishes.
Chef Gabi Kurz will be in attendance this year to fine tune the fine dining restaurant Fenesse and will be hosting various demonstrations and cookery classes. Guess can take part in these and learn to create nutritious dishes from local ingredients. A new skill certainly makes for a memorable holiday souvenir!
Also in attendance is philosophy and meditation teacher and music therapist Winnie Rode who trained as a Tibetan monk and runs meditation classes.
If you are in need of some well deserved therapy or simply are in the mood to relax head over to The Talise Spa which is a secluded haven in the middle of a private garden. Here you can indulge yourself entirely in soothing and rejuvenating rituals using local organic ingredients.
For those seeking something a little more lively there is a water fitness centre with thrilling views of the Indian Ocean.
Free diver Christian Redl is a world champion and will be leading discussions about the sport and the amazing impact it has had on his life. Marc Hillesheim will join the festival to give workshops on underwater photography and also will be a leading a photography dive.
If you are a fan of snorkelling and free diving head over to Dhidhoofinolhu, an island where you can spot whale sharks and enjoy the beautiful lagoon. South Ari Atoll has a marine biology centre and visitors can take part in research which aims to preserve and protect the natural sea life.
Of course if you would much rather do nothing at all, this is a viable option! Choose your sun lounger or hammock under the shelter of a palm tree, order a delicious iced cocktail and sway in the breeze as the sun beats down upon you. Blissful.
