The Bugatti Chiron supercedes it’s older brother the Veyron with it’s latest design. It’s 25% more powerful with improved aerodynamics and better handling.
Whilst the Veyron produced an impressive 1183bhp the Chiron whips it’s backside with a whopping 1479bhp! It’s quite heavy on fuel consumption and would burn through it’s entire 100 Ltr fuel tank in just 9 minutes at it’s top speed. The likelihood of ever doing this is pretty small unless you are a stuntman in a high speed race on a film set so fuel costs shouldn’t be too high!
Whilst Bugatti has put a speed limit on both models, the Chiron’s top speed is 3mph faster than the Veyron.
It’s reaction speeds are faster as a result of the carbon fibre monocoque and it features an electric steering system. Now, this is where it gets really interesting. The Chiron possesses 5 different modes for driving. You can opt for the default Automatic setting which is set with the Chiron’s programmed responses. If you are driving over speed bumps or loading a trailer Lift is your best option. If you accelerate to 112mph then the Autobahn mode is activated for a smooth and comfortable high speed cruise! The Handling mode is designed with track work in mind and cranks everything up!
Top Speed mode allows you to race up to 261mph, only handy if you happen to own a airplane runway but impressive nonetheless!
This is a build that favours technology over aesthetics. It’s curves are to enhance the intake of air and cool it’s monstrous engine and the shape of the rear is formed to reduce drag. In fact nearly every design feature of the Chiron is implemented to increase performance! Yet take a look at it. it may look a touch dull compared to a P1 or an Aventador, but it’s a fairly handsome car. It merely isn’t quite as attractive as it’s distant cousins, but it does deliver on speed, handling and stability and Bugatti are certainly consistent with their high level performance cars.
Also noteworthy are the interior speakers which have diamond membranes encrusted on each. This is the one piece of utter indulgence which isn’t related to the cars technology and capabilities and it’s beautifully minimalistic and not overly fussy. What excited us most here at Men’s Stuff, even more so than it’s incredible power is the glove box which is cooled from within. Yes, someone at Bugatti has really thought about how to keep your sandwiches and champers cool! What a splendid idea – ham and pickle anyone? Oh sorry we meant cucumber and blue fin tuna dahling!
We bet you are wondering who those people are who ring up Bugatti or pop down to the showroom and say “I’m off on my monthly skiing trip old chap, could you kindly drop one of your most expensive automobiles down to the manor please. The third car park in the second wing is normally left un-gated.”
Well to answer this question, it’s filthy rich people that tend to enjoy adding to their car collections like a kid adds to his lego sets. They tend to own helicoptors, yachts and entire fleets of beautiful super cars.
We’ll be honest the Chiron wouldn’t be our first choice, even at a lower price, but we tend to be a bit fanatical about Lambo’s and Ferrari’s and we’re a sucker for a sexy, curvy super car. It’s a weakness! Having said that, Bugatti really are in a league of their own and to their fan base of multi-millionaires, Bugatti really is the stuff that dreams are made of!
