Mass Effect: Andromeda will ditch the Paragon/Renegade system that featured heavily in the original Mass Effect trilogy. The very binary mechanics of Paragon and Renegade “forced people” to choose one side of the morality scale, according to Bioware producer Fabrice Condominas. The new dialogue system will have a larger number of reply options, with player choices affecting trust levels and leading to further reaching consequences.
“The dialogue and conversations are constantly evolving with your choices,” Condominas said. “They change based on the decisions you make, and the outcome of those decision, [including] conversations of other characters.”
When playing Mass Effect: Andromeda, players will be faced with dialogue style choices such as ‘intellectual’ and ‘professional’. Condominas explains that how a character says something can be just as important as actually saying it. The team wanted character tone to be part of the definition behind the choice and the relationships, because depending on the tone, characters saying the same thing, could result in a very different perceptions of what was said.
Mass Effect: Andromeda releases from its 5-year development cycle on March 21st 2017 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
