OrdzGames introduces BitBoy, a Game Boy-inspired handheld that allows players to earn Bitcoin while gaming.
Drawing inspiration from the iconic Nintendo Game Boy, BitBoy enters the market as a unique offering tailored for crypto enthusiasts. Unlike its retro counterparts, BitBoy focuses on Bitcoin-based games, offering players the opportunity to accumulate cryptocurrency as they play. Originally unveiled at the Web3 Gaming Expo in Hong Kong, this handheld device is developed by OrdzGames and is compatible with the developer’s “trustless, non-custodial” game platform.
BitBoy retains the nostalgic appearance of the classic Game Boy, featuring an orange, translucent plastic design. However, under the hood, it boasts modern specifications including a RockChip RK3566 processor, a 3.45-inch 64×480 display, and 32GB of internal memory. Priced at $500, with pre-orders expected to open soon, BitBoy targets a niche market of crypto enthusiasts seeking a gaming experience intertwined with digital currency rewards.
While BitBoy primarily caters to the crypto community, it also offers versatility. According to Decrypt, the device is capable of running emulators and is powerful enough to handle games from the original Sony PlayStation. However, its premium price tag may deter some, especially considering that the RK3566 chip is featured in more affordable gaming handhelds such as the Anbernic RG353P, priced at $119.
For those preferring a digital experience, BitBoy also offers a blockchain-based version accessible through the Bitcoin blockchain. While traditional retro gaming fans may lean towards physical devices, BitBoy’s digital variant presents an intriguing option for those interested in the intersection of gaming and cryptocurrency.
