Developer Niantic has announced the Slumbering Sands event for Pokémon GO, promising a thrilling lineup of new costumed Pokémon, special bonuses, and engaging activities for trainers.
Event Overview
Pokémon GO, the popular mobile augmented reality game, merges the virtual world of Pokémon with reality. Players use GPS technology to explore real-world locations to capture virtual creatures, battle at virtual Gyms, and team up in Raid Battles.
From June 7 to June 12, players can encounter new costumed Pokémon, including Slakoth, Vigoroth, and Slaking, all sporting visors. These Pokémon will be available in both regular and shiny forms. Throughout the event, players will earn double XP for catching Pokémon, making it a great time to level up. Taking snapshots during the event might lead to surprise encounters with event-themed Pokémon, adding an extra layer of excitement.
Wild Encounters
During the event, the following Pokémon will appear more frequently in the wild:
– Psyduck
– Slowpoke
– Drowzee
– Mareep
– Slakoth (visor)
– Oranguru
– Sandygast
This event marks the debut of shiny Komala in Pokémon GO, which can be found in the wild and through Field Research tasks. Lucky trainers might also encounter Munna and shiny versions of the above Pokémon.
Field Research Tasks
Event-themed Field Research tasks will reward encounters with:

– Drowzee
– Mareep

– Sandygast
– Komala
Timed Research
Special Timed Research will be available for trainers with a Pokémon GO Plus + device, offering rewards such as Stardust and encounters with:
– Snorlax (nightcap)
– Slakoth (visor)
– Komala
Trainers can complete Timed Research until June 14, 2024, at 8:00 p.m. local time. Additionally, for $2.00, trainers can access event-exclusive Timed Research, which includes rewards like a Komala Backpack avatar item, encounters with Komala and Slakoth (visor), Stardust, XP, and Silver Pinap Berries.
Collection Challenge
An event-themed Collection Challenge will be available, offering rewards like Stardust, XP, and an encounter with Komala upon completion.
PokéStop Showcases
Keep an eye out for Showcases at different PokéStops, where players can enter event-themed Pokémon to compete for prizes.
Pokémon GO Web Store Deals
During the event, the Pokémon GO Web Store will feature special deals. Trainers with Pokémon Trainer Club (PTC) accounts can now log in using their game credentials and receive a 15% discount on their first purchase of any item priced at $9.99 or more.
