Sichuan, a South Western province in China is known for it’s glorious landscapes and natural beauty, from it’s placid lakes and roaring waterfalls through to the natural limestone caves.
The Anantara Resort lies at the bottom of Mount Emei which is the tallest Buddhist mountain in the whole of China and also a UNESCO heritage site. This is where many sweet herbs grow and are used in Anantara’s tranquil spa. After a ten hour flight a little TLC is just the tonic for aching muscles and their acclaimed bamboo massage is sure to soothe away all those aches and pains.
Jinyi, Anantara’s gourmet restaurant offers an extensive menu of Sichuanese dishes which are perfect for sharing. Dip into deep fried scallops which melt in your mouth, flowers of pastry and sweet juicy prawns. If you have an adventurous palette, sampling the frog stew is a must. Your chef will set the dish alight then top with noodles, Sichuan spices and pak choi. The presentation and craftsmanship is entertaining and inspired and you’ll relish every single mouthful of these fragrant delights.
There is a lot more to South West China than scenic locations, bamboo and spices. It’s a culture that practises Tai Chi and Chengdu is a breeding ground for giant pandas. You’ll need to be an early worm if you wish to see them at their liveliest, but to witness them playing in their natural habitat is nourishment for the soul and worth the early start.
It’s also worth journeying to the vibrant Tibetan Quarter. Here you’ll find all types of local cuisines and all things mystical. In nearby People’s Park you’ll see a variety of street performers engaging in karaoke and locals mastering the art of tai chi.
Discover the wonders that China has to behold and explore a myriad of mystical, beautiful and blissful delights.
