Thai Tho Soho

We stumbled upon Thai Tho when looking for somewhere to eat in Soho. Thai Tho came up on google maps and the gallery of photo’s showing the ambient and plush looking restaurant appealed instantly.

When we arrived we were led upstairs to a gorgeous dining area which was lit with soft red lighting which complemented the red painted walls, matching cushions and soft furnishings and the ornate golden framed tapestries hung on the wall. The restaurant has a luxurious feel to it visually and enough space between the tables to be comfortable. We felt instantly relaxed and decided we would take our time and order starters.

We opted for sweet chilli prawns and spicy squid which comes in a batter and with a spicy dip. Both dishes were very tasty and beautifully presented and the prices are quite reasonable seeing that we were right in the heart of Soho’s theatre district.

For mains we selected the Thai Red chicken Curry and coconut rice and Prawn Pad Thai. We have tried many Thai restaurants and found that the food is often sub standard and bland unless you find a really good one. Fortunately Thai Tho falls into the former category and the food is absolutely scrumptious! Both the prawns and chicken were tender and moist and the sauces were exactly how our westernised version of Thai food should taste in our opinions – a touch of lemon grass, a slight tang of aniseed, a delicious nuttiness and a sensation of sweet moreishness. Both dishes hit the spot and sated our appetites and our rather spoilt and super critical taste buds, which can be quite the challenge! It’s just as well we do not live closer as we would be in there all the time as we can see how the food could be highly addictive!

We were later joined by a friend who selected the Thai Green Curry and he savoured every mouthful, commenting on what a taste sensation the dish was. If you enjoy your food a little spicy then I would recommend the Red Thai Curry, or if you prefer a milder flavour then Green Thai Curry will suit you perfectly.

The service was very good too. The staff were very receptive and it was easy to catch their eye and make a request. Serving times were just right, we were not rushed at all but we also didn’t have too wait too long for anything either. Afterwards we sat and finished our drinks as we were having a meeting. The staff seemed quite happy for us to sit and chat and did not give us any indication that we might be over staying our welcome.

You’ll notice that Thai Tho is frequented by a great deal by the Asian community as well as various other nationalities which is always a great indication of how good the food is.
