On February 26, 2024, McLaren unveiled the convertible version of its sports car GT, the Artura Spider. This was achieved by replacing the roof panels with a removable hardtop design, enhancing the car’s aesthetic appeal. McLaren also adjusted the engine cooling vents and redesigned the front air intakes to better accommodate the open-top configuration, as well as to manage airflow over the roof. The mechanism controlling the new glass roof panel operates with eight motors, enabling it to open and close in just 11 seconds, even at speeds exceeding 50 kilometers per hour. Additionally, it features an Electrochromatic glass panel system to adjust light intensity, a popular feature in modern sports and luxury cars.

The Artura’s powertrain retains the mid-mounted 2,993 cc V6 engine, codenamed M630. Its output has been increased to 700 horsepower (PS) and 720 Newton-meters of torque. Paired with the SSG 8-speed automatic gearbox, which has been tuned to operate 25% faster, and with redesigned exhaust pipes and engine mounts to reduce vibrations, the Artura promises enhanced performance. It also includes an electric motor assisting the rear wheels, forming a hybrid system with a 7.4 kWh battery and a maximum output of 95 horsepower and 225 Newton-meters of torque. When running solely on electric power, it can reach a top speed of 130 kilometers per hour and cover a distance of up to 34 kilometers. Performance figures include:

– Maximum combined output: 680 horsepower, 720 Newton-meters of torque.
– Acceleration from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 3.0 seconds.
– Acceleration from 0 to 200 kilometers per hour in 8.4 seconds.
– Top speed limited to 330 kilometers per hour.

Furthermore, it comes with upgraded brakes featuring new cooling ducts, redesigned airflow paths, carbon ceramic brake discs, and lightweight aluminum calipers. The chassis includes new shock absorbers and improvements to the Proactive Damping Control suspension system for better responsiveness.

Externally, it offers a choice of 20 exterior colors, while the interior boasts a Bowers & Wilkins sound system with 12 speakers, especially notable with the Technology Pack option, including speakers integrated between the front seats.

The McLaren Artura Spider is priced at $273,800 and will be available for delivery in mid-2024. Upgrades for the coupe version, along with horsepower enhancement packages, are also available for previous buyers of the coupe model.
