The Hotel Cafe Royal has long been touted as having the best wine cellar in the world and so it should having been originally opened as a cafe by a bankrupt French wine merchant while fleeing his homeland and the advancing Parisian creditors. The cafe closed in 2008 and underwent a four-year renovation before reopening as the hotel in 2012. Still renowned for its selection of French wines and also the decadent green fairy, otherwise known as Absinthe, served in the aptly named Green Room. The new Oscar Wilde Bar replaces their Louis XVI decorated Grill bar of bygone days through the pristinely gilded decor has been preserved in all its splendour.
All this decadence before you’ve even made it up the staircase.
The 7 signature suites and 2 wings rising above the bustling Regent Street address are decorated in a chic, wide-ranging choice of decor. From the Napolean cameo paintings of the Club Suite portraying the admiral through the ages to the historically pleasing mock wooden panelling of the Tudor Suite, you will find a beautiful variety of styles and genres. Moving into a more modern age is the Dome Penthouse with LED lights which can be projected onto the domed ceiling. However, if it is impressively show-stopping mingled with flowing oriental charisma that you are after, look no further than the genteel one bedroom Oscar Suite nestled in the eaves.
