We all love a trip to a good market! Well the Missus always tends to anyway. Take her along and keep her happy. You’ll find plenty of good pubs near most of these, so you can always pop in and sink a few if it all gets a bit too much!
Covent Garden is probably a little more upmarket than those you find in the East or West end of London. The stalls are beautifully laid out and shoppers can peruse many handicrafts and items made by design and fashion students. Furthermore there are plenty of bars and eateries nearby where you can relax with a nice cold bottle of beer after following the Missus round al day! Purchase something obscure and tell dinner party guests it cost £15000. They won’t be able to tell the difference!
Camden Lock is one of the most hipster places in London featuring bohemian stalls, a wide range of delicious and authentic foods and hand crafted items. Best visited mid week as it gets packed out at the weekend. A frequent haunt of goths, alternatives and trendies. If you can get past that (we’re kidding!) you will enjoy a good day out.
Columbia Road in the East End is a Sunday market and runs from 8am till 3pm. It’s also a short hop from Brick Lane and Spitalfields so a great place to visit if you wish to make a day of it.
Old Spitalfields is London’s oldest market and offers different stalls and themed ware everyday. The Thursday market is best for antiques and vintage items, Fridays are best for fashion. Whichever day you opt for your bound to find a good bargain.
Brick Lane offers a blend of second hand wares and street performers who will keep you entertained whilst you dig through exciting relics and artesian designs. If you like looking at odd looking people performing strange feats with brightly coloured hair then this is definitely for you! Brick lane is a fascinating place unlike any other. Come here to escape London’s more mundane areas and experience a vibrant journey of colourful fun and culture.
Leather Lane is one of the best in London for scrumptious street foods that you will not taste elsewhere! You can also buy fruit and veg and other bric a brac at this old fashioned market which delivers a true taste of old London.
Petticoat Lane is a delightful fashion market in the East End. Also known as Middlesex Street market after a rename in 1830 when the Victorians decided that naming it ‘petticoat’ after it’s wares was just a touch too saucy! Ooh Matron! There are over 1000 stalls at this flea market and you can loose hours chatting with the friendly purveyors and browsing discount.
Portobello Road is home to the worlds largest antique market and is the West Ends most vibrant and bustling market place. It’s frequently visited by locals and visitors to the area due to its vast range of products and you can buy everything from fruit and veg to antiques and second hang clothing.
