Following the closed beta earlier this month, Ubisoft are now everyone try their upcoming game in an open beta session, which will be available ahead of its launch on 7th March. During an earnings call in November, Ubisoft had said an open beta would be on the way, however no specifics had been confirmed. It will be open to all players on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, though no date has been set. The recent closed beta offered players the chance to complete 6 main missions, and a whole host of side missions. The open beta will open up a new region of the game, and bring new content with it.
If it’s anything like For Honor, which is enjoying an open beta this weekend ahead of its launch on Tuesday, Wildlands could well have the open beta between 3rd-5th March. The closed beta did seem a lot more polished than Wildlands though, so perhaps Ubisoft will look to do it a bit sooner, in case there are still some aspects of the game that need fixing. Hopefully we’ll find out soon.
Set in a near future Bolivia, Wildlands is the biggest open world game the developer has ever made, consisting of 21 regions that have their own unique towns and population, and 11 different biomes which contain their own animals and climate. According to Benoit Martinez, the technical art director, the NPCs lead their own agenda in the game; getting up each morning, going to work, going to bed at night. Players have the option to interact with them, but regardless of this, they will “live their own life”.
For those that missed it, we will also be getting a live action 30 minute short film, titled ‘War Within the Cartel’. Premiering 16th February over on Ubisoft’s Twitch channel (before heading to Amazon at a later date), it is set in the games universe, and will star rapper turned actor TI. It focuses on the Santa Blanca drug cartel as they try to deal with a traitor amongst their ranks, with the events of the film leading into the start of the game. Roberto Orci (Star Trek, The Amazing Spiderman 2) will be producing the film, and directed by Avi Youbian. You can check out the films trailer at the top of the page.
How will you take down the drug cartel, single player or co-op with friends?
